Quinta do Rol is a centenary estate that focuses on premium wine production, Rural Tourism and Equestrian clinics and riding. The equestrian centre at Quinta do Rol has been carefully designed from the light and airy stables to the beautifully- manicured tack room. The facilities include a 20 x 40 metre indoor arena equipped with mirrors, 20 x 60 metre outdoor covered arena, working equitation paddock, lunge pen and wash-boxes. The horses are impeccably groomed before each session, characteristic long flowing manes and tails of the legendary Lusitano horse, it's a place where passion and excellence meet. Regular turn-out in the paddocks keeps the horses healthy and happy. These are not your ordinary dressage schoolmasters; they are well-muscled horses, trained to perfection.
Instruction in equitation is of the highest calibre, bursting with creative passion and a straightforward approach, your riding is sure to improve.The horses at Quinta do Rol are purebred Lusitanos. Lessons are always on a one to one basis enabling you to concentrate wholly on what you wish to achieve whether it be to strengthen your position, improve your lateral work or get the hang of one-time changes. Dressage saddles with double bridles are used. You can also request to try the traditional Portuguese saddles.
Quinta do Rol has four spacious guest cottages. Each cottage is individually designed and equipped with a fireplace and air conditioning for the warmer months. There is a kitchen where guests can help themselves to tea, coffee and cold drinks as well as prepare their own meals if they choose. Each cottage has a garden or terrace area. There is a swimming pool (not heated) with BBQ and gym area as well as tennis and basketball courts for guests to enjoy. The riding centre is a few minutes' walk from the main quinta down a private drive and across a country road.
The historical medieval village of Óbidos is a 20-minute drive and features a number of local shops along its cobbled streets as well as the well-kept medieval walls. Peniche, with more than 20 surf spots and 9.3 mi of beach, one of the best surf locations in Europe, is just a 20-minute drive away. The town of Nazare which is a 20 minute drive, attracts some of the world's best and bravest surfers. Long regarded as the home of big wave surfing in Portugal, Nazare has recently put itself firmly on the global map with the biggest waves ever ridden being surfed here. In January 2018 Hugo Vau rode a record-breaking 35 meter (100ft+) wave at Praia do Norte.
