This is a Guest Ranch that is truly focussed on horses and riding. Here, beginners can learn to ride and maybe canter for the first time in open country. Advanced riders can go on long treks, help with cattle work or practice their western moves, bareback or not. The natural environment offers stunning vistas and laughing is on the menu. The Wirth Family believes in true western hospitality and aims to offer an authentic, personal experience to their guests.

A la carte riding Program

Your days on the ranch are surrounded with horses, as much or as little as you want. They are spent on long rides, short rides, cattle work, arena work, ground work, playing at liberty, playing in the creek or even chasing the herd out to pasture as evening rolls in. Chances are you will sleep very well at night.

Western Riding

Rocking Z is a perfect place for those who want to experience the dramatic scenery of Montana, gallop across ridges and mountain tops, or just slowly enjoy the scenery on the back of a great horse.

Excellent training for horse and rider

At the Rocking Z, they love their horses and share them with their guests. Every horse they purchase is carefully retrained but much of the herd was actually bred on the Ranch. The primary training method for both horses and guests is Parelli Natural Horsemanship and the groundwork is all correlated to the riding style. Since all of the horses are trained this way, this provides for clear communication between horse and rider right away, no matter what style and level. The horses are trained to be independent and responsive, easily moving off on their own and being worked away from the group without anxiety. This has created a wonderful herd of relaxed animals that they are quite proud of. No nose to tail dude ranching here!

Natural Horsemanship

For family members who are not as horsey, or just for a change, roping, skeet-shooting, archery, and creek swimming are offered. You can also go hiking and will likely make memorable wildlife encounters on the way. There also is a saloon with a pool table, and a volleyball net in the yard as well as a small "golf" course.

Three meals a day are served in the main lodge, and snacks are always available. Ranch-style food is served, but they are happy to make special accommodations for special diets. The team at Rocking Z is particularly proud of their Gluten-Free cooking and baking. They are happy to serve Keto, Pescatarian, Vegan, Dairy-Free etc - just so long as you give enough warning for them to go shopping appropriately prior to your arrival.
